So here is the latest painting!  It is hanging in The Yogic Lounge — go check it out!  I’ve come up with “Woman of Birds and Flowers” as the title … I’m not sure it’s right.  It’s an OK title … suggestions?? Let me know if you have any good ideas. I really don’t like titling my work. If I knew what I wanted to say with words why would I have painted the painting?  Any way HERE IT IS!!

Kareli Kairos is getting a real honest-to-goodness STORE FRONT!!!! This is a very exciting step! I am renting a space adjoining the Yogic Lounge in Arlington Towers across from Se7en, downtown on the corner of 1rst and Arlington (all of this is in Reno, NV for any out-of-town-ers). Near the Imperial Bar as well. It going to set up as my shop with all my wares as well as my working studio (live painting)! It is small, but it has GREAT windows, and it is a perfect location for me. More details to come, such as when the super-fun, big, grand opening bash will be, hours of operation, etc. But I’m pretty sure it will be some time in January!!! Thanks Yogic Lounge peeps for inviting me to be part of your special, magical crew! Here’s a picture of part of the the space when it was Souk, a cool little shop whose owners’ moved out-of-state (that’s why it’s vacant now so I can move in!!):

I searched high. I searched low. I have finally found a GREAT ORGANIC cotton hoodie to print my art on and add to the clothing line, and it is manufactured using wind and solar to boot!! Here is a link to a the manufacture’s page about their ethics. It is a really awesome company with very high green standards. While Kareli Kairos is not big enough to manufacture our own garment blanks, I am SO excited to be adding my art to these fabulous and oh so responsible threads! I have so many ideas about what I am going to add to these hoodies! I can’t wait to show everyone! I just received my sample a few days ago and it stood up to being washed on HOT without shrinking! Next I will find a dryer and dry it on hot and see how it fares. This is a VERY EXCITING addition to the clothing line. YEAH!! oh, and I think I’m going to make MENS hoodies as well. This will be the first official mens wear for Kareli Kairos so another milestone there.

 The Painting's Begining

The painting

The light is going to be of importance in this piece. It is all back-lit with summer afternoon sun, so the wings and all the little “bits” will be glowing.

Yeah, first painting I’ve finished in 2008!!  (I know, I know, 2008 is almost over…took me long enough)  Here are some pics of me working on it from earlier this year, and then the finished painting.  If anyone is interested it isn’t up on the website yet, I have to get it professionally photographed first, but you can email me.  There has already been some interest in this piece, I took it on the road with me this summer, unfinished.  I painted on it a little while vending.  Painting in front of your booth attracts a bit of attention.

So this painting started as a creative expansion on the idea of the Bubble Garden painting. Both of these pieces were inspired by getting in the bath and watching the little bubbles of oxygen form on my skin, and by jumping into a cool creek on a hot summer day, the feeling of the air forced into the water with my body swirl up and around me and the cool crisp water touching my skin. And inspired by imagining what a mermaid’s garden might be like, and by all the hours I spent in the pool/lake/river as a kid (and as an adult).
